Criminal Law Update 2023

Speaker: Adam Smith
Chambers: Great James Street Chambers

Adam has an extensive practice focused on criminal, extradition and public law. Adam has a busy criminal practice appearing in the Crown and Magistrates’ Courts. His regular criminal practice has given him extensive exposure to new legal areas; a proving ground in which he has shown his ability to get to grips with difficult legal matters in a short space of time and communicate clear advice to his clients.

Adam begins this detailed update in this presentation by outlining new criminal offences. He outlines potential defences available to lawyers working with these cases, as well as the range of penalties available to the courts when sentencing those convicted of such offences. This includes new protest offences, firearms offences, national security offences, and sex-based harassment offences.
